The history of Apartment Zlata goes back to 1908, when the Hercezi family moved to Zagreb from the Croatian city of Varaždin. An accomplished ironmonger, his work was quickly recognised for its quality, and many of the pieces he created still grace the elegant buildings of Zagreb’s old centre – including the main entrance of Ribnjak Street no. 5, which is today home to Apartment Zlata.

The flat is named after Zlata, the daughter of the man who built the building at Ribnjak Street no. 5, and the grandmother of the current owner. In renovating and decorating it anew, we have endeavoured to preserve not only the spirit of this historic family home, but also something of the love that Zlata herself felt for the city that, over the course of her long life, was her home.
